Sword in Hand Returns!

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Last Monday, I continued the story of Sword in Hand. It was the first strip in three years, and continued the story of episode 2 right where it left off.

So far, things have been going great. Readership is growing quickly thanks for the truly amazing Project Wonderful. The new Wacom Cintiq has made the whole process enjoyable and has given the production of the strip a very natural feeling.

ACL (or reason #245 why I love Austin)

Friday, November 7th, 2008

I love music. It’s a very safe bet to say that the majority of Austinites feel the same way so it’s no wonder that Austin annually hosts one of the best music festival’s in the nation. Austin City Limits.

Its a great place to discover new music. This year, there were roughly ~130 bands present including the Foo Fighters, Beck, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, The Raconteurs, The Mars Volta, Gnarls Barkley, N.E.R.D., Gogol Bordello, Blues Traveler, and well… about 131 more.

I took more pictures this year than I did last, but still I didn’t take that many. After all, I wasn’t there to take pictures or video. Pictures are on my flickr ACL set and I even uploaded videos to my Youtube channel.

Here is a video of Gnarls Barkley from ACL 2008.

Facebook Status Updates… Ugh

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Right after Obama was elected, I noticed that my Facebook status updates were flooded with a bunch of angry comments.  People wanting to move to Canada and Australia…  People saying it is the end of the world…  It’s just all too much.  I’m tempted to drop Facebook all together and huddle down in Twitter.

Apparently, the backup center for UT football also made some nasty comments on his Facebook status also and it got him kicked off the team.

Below is a screen grab from the news article I saw.

America Has Selected Change

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

“And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world - our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand.” -Barack Obama

Very very powerful.  This is why I voted for President Obama.

I hope that the rest of the world can look upon this election and see that the majority of the American people desire a new direction..

GOP Gripes, Continued

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

I just saw this comment over at slashdot (posted by BadAnalogyGuy) and it does a great job of summing up the way I feel about Sarah Palin and the GOP in general.

Whether or not Palin decides to pursue a post-election career as a national-level politician, the real damage has already been dealt to the Republican party. Her meteoric rise is only a slight clue into the inner turmoil of the GOP.

The 20+ years of neoconservative leadership has bankrupted the Republican party of its core conservative platform, and the pandering to the religious fundamentalists has turned off the moderates of the party. Those left are the ones who see Palin as more than she ever could be. She represents precisely the reasons why the Republican party is unable to attract new members and votes.

Which is not to say that the Republican party and its conservative ideals are without merit. The country at this time is severely divided, and it has been the steady hand promised by Obama that has been able to attract voters this year. However, most people believe in smaller government, in a government that is less intrusive, and in free markets. Where we may disagree is in degree, but at its core, the Republican stance has always been these three pillars.

That these pillars have been completely ignored in the actual implementation of policy is the primary reason so many are seeking answers elsewhere.

Very nice post.

Tommorow Feels Like Christmas. I Hope Santa Brings Change!!

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

I’ve put a lot of energy towards this years election… done a lot of research… listened to both sides…

I can now say, with an incredible ease, that I have a very large distaste for the Republican party. The very foundation of the party reeks of intolerance.

I would have to say that my main issue with the party would have to be it’s deep entrenchment with the religious right. It’s sad to me that the country has been steadily moving backwards by accepting religion further into our government. The founding fathers of the country drafted the constitution while keeping in mind all the follies that they had seen in England and the rest of the world. Religion was left out of that document for a very solid reason.

We currently live in a religious tolerant country with a government that is (supposed to be) a religious tolerant government and I just want to be sure that things stay that way…

John McCain’s campaign has been a very weird one. A few words that come to mind when I remind myself of the campaign he has ran… Fear.. Disrespectful.. Bad decisions.. And what about Sarah Palin? If anyone out there thinks Bush isn’t doing so hot, trust me… She would be even worse. ..Which is nearly impossible to comprehend.

But anyways… Yes, I’m an Obama Believer. I think that he has the power to renew the worlds respect in the United States and bring back a democratic economy.

As if the last couple of weeks haven’t been stressful enough, tomorrow will take things to a whole new level. Emotions are high, and regardless of who wins, close to half of the country will be disappointed.

I just hope the election plays out close to how the polls have been reading. This country needs change and a new direction. We need it now.

P.S. Go Vote.
